Perfect Braai Ribeye Steak

Learn Sifo’s secret techniques for perfectly grilled ribeye steak with garlic butter.

Ingredients

  • 2 ribeye steaks about 250-300g each, at room temperature
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and coarse black pepper to taste
  • For the garlic butter:
  • 100 g butter softened
  • 3 garlic cloves finely minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley finely chopped

Equipment

  • Braai (grill) or heavy frying pan
  • Tongs
  • Mixing bowl (for butter)
  • Aluminium foil

Method

  1. Light your braai and wait for the coals to be very hot, or heat a pan until smoking hot.
  2. Pat the steaks dry, rub with olive oil, and season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Grill the steaks for 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, depending on thickness. Use tongs and avoid pressing down.
  4. While the steaks cook, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, and parsley in a bowl.
  5. Once cooked to your liking, remove the steaks and let them rest on a plate loosely tented with foil for 5 minutes.
  6. Top each resting steak with a generous dollop of the garlic butter before serving.

Notes

Letting the steak rest is crucial for juicy results. The residual heat will melt the garlic butter into a sauce.
